130 Metallurgists welcomed to Parkes for MetFest 2022

On the 21st of October, CMOC-Northparkes (Northparkes) hosted the 11th Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) MetFest event, bringing around 130 metallurgists, process engineers, associated professionals and undergraduate chemical engineering students to Parkes. The annual event boasts a series of unique networking events which connects technical professionals, undergraduate students and operational leaders across the resources sector.

Coordinated by Northparkes Manager – Ore Processing, Mitch Garside and Principal Consultant- OptiFroth Solutions, Dr Bianca Newcombe, MetFest Parkes included a guided tour of Northparkes’ processing facilities; in a unique opportunity to showcase Northparkes’ metallurgical exploits to experienced and upcoming technical persons. A series of technical presentations were conducted by Northparkes and other operations across the central west, including Evolution Mining – Cowal, Newcrest Mining – Cadia and Alkane Resources –  Tomingley Gold.  The Northparkes Ore Processing team presented learnings from successful and unsuccessful plant trials, and the mineralogy program Northparkes utilise for process improvement.

Managing Director Jianjun Tian said “MetFest is an annual highlight of the mining industry, and on behalf of CMOC-Northparkes it is an honour to have hosted this year’s event. It is from programs like these our industry will drive innovation and progress. In welcoming 130 technical experts and future talent to our operation, this has also showcased our region and community, and positions Northparkes as a leading operator in the mining industry.”

As a component of the MetFest event, Northparkes also hosted a Women In Mining Network (WIMNet) panel discussion and breakfast networking event. Featuring three of the 2022 Women in Resources Awards National winners, the panel discussion highlighted challenges, successes and learnings of celebrated women in the resources sector.
