Changing of the guard at Northparkes Mines

Over the last year, CMOC International – owner and operator of Northparkes Mines – has grown considerably with sizable acquisitions in both Brazil and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). CMOC now has assets in Australia, Brazil, China and the DRC.

Today, CMOC announces it has appointed Jim Fowler as Managing Director, CMOC-Northparkes Mines, to lead Northparkes for the next chapter in its history. Stef Loader, who has led Northparkes for the last five years, is stepping down. Northparkes has been operating for 23 years and has a vision of ‘A century of mining together’.

Jim joins the Northparkes team next week, coming from CMOC International’s Phoenix, Arizona Management Centre in the USA. He will live in Parkes and is looking forward to making the Central West his home. Jim has a wealth of operational and technical experience from working in operations across North and South America, and was most recently VP Operations for Kinross in North America before joining CMOC.

Tim Swendseid, Senior Vice President Operations and Technical, CMOC International, said, “Stef Loader has been at Northparkes since 2012 and has shown strong leadership in many areas. Among her achievements, her passion for Northparkes and Zero Harm Operations stand out, together with her commitment to people and the broader Central West community.

“Stef has built strong relationships with our stakeholders – Northparkes enjoys a leading reputation both in NSW and nationally.  She is currently considering other opportunities within CMOC.

“I thank Stef for her service, commitment and leadership of Northparkes. I also welcome Jim Fowler to Northparkes and know the business will be in good hands. Jim is a very experienced mine operator with significant international experience.”

Stef Loader, Managing Director, said, “My five years at Northparkes have been the highlight of my career. I am proud of what we have achieved, particularly in respect to Zero Harm Operations which is our approach to everything we do. My family and I have made our home here in the Central West and we look forward to continuing to be a part of this wonderful community.”

Northparkes is located 27kms north-west of Parkes, NSW, employs approximately 300 full-time employees and was recently recognised as the first mine site in Australia to achieve White Ribbon accreditation. Northparkes is also a finalist in the upcoming NSW Mining Industry and Suppliers awards in the category of “Mining Operation of the Year – 2016”, which will be announced on Thursday 6 April at NSW Parliament House.
